Stephen K Watson
Practice Areas: Real Estate, Municipal Law, Planning and Zoning, Easement Acquisition, Condemnation, §1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges, and Transactions. Stephen K. Watson was born in 1965 and obtained his undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 1988, magna cum laude. Stephen received his legal education from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, graduating in 1992, and was admitted to the bar in Indiana in 1992, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana. Stephen has been an associate attorney with WILLIAMS BARRETT & WILKOWSKI, LLP since 1997. Stephen has extensive experience representing the firm's municipal clients and handling real estate sales, purchases, leases, easements, and zoning matters. He has also supervised the organization and administration of easement acquisitions required for water and sewer utilities, coordination with the Federal Rural Development Administration and the State Revolving Loan Fund, and compliance with federal land acquisition requirements. |
Stephen has prosecuted the condemnation of easements and rights-of-way and has represented property owners facing condemnation of their property by the Indiana Department of Transportation for state highway projects. Stephen also has experience with Section 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges. Stephen has been a speaker at educational seminars on the topic of easement acquisitions.
Stephen also has substantial experience representing redevelopment commissions, including the creation and supervision of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts, and the negotiation and oversight of economic development projects and incentive agreements. Currently, Stephen spends a significant portion of his time representing the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission, the Town of Whiteland, the Town of Trafalgar, and the Johnson County Planning and Zoning Department. Prior to joining our firm, Stephen served as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Greenwood. Stephen also has four years of experience working at Ferguson, Ferguson, & Lloyd in Bloomington, where he served as assistant to the general counsel for the Lake Monroe Regional Waste District.
Stephen is a member of the Indianapolis and Indiana Bar Associations. Stephen also serves as a director of the Johnson County Rural Electric Membership Corporation and a director of the Center Grove Bantam Football League, and is an active member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.
